HYLD empowers young leaders, including underprivileged young people, with culturally responsive support for leadership skills, mentorship, and opportunities that strengthen identity and open doors to success.
About Us
Our non-profit works to eliminate the school-to-prison pipeline in Washington State by implementing after-school leadership programs for at-risk students. According to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), significant disparities exist in suspension and expulsion rates across Washington schools. At-risk youths, as well as students with disabilities, face disproportionately high rates of disciplinary actions, which correlate with increased involvement in the juvenile justice system.
